CURRENT PLATFORM FOR THE GOP

SECTION 4: FAMILY SECURITY AND DEFENSE OF LIFE

The Republican Party recognizes the blessings that God has bestowed on this great Nation. We declare our faith in Him and ask His continued guidance as we work to preserve this government of "One Nation Under God". We also recognize the sanctity of human life and the central role of the traditional family in our society. Therefore, we believe that:

Our legislators should consider the effects that laws relating to taxation, divorce, welfare and other matters have on the family. Minnesota.s law governing marriage should be amended to offer a "Covenant Marriage" option, entailing extensive pre-marital counseling and limits on divorce. Parental privileges of fathers in child custody issues should be restored to comply with the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Adopting changes that encourage families to stay together, including changes in marriage, divorce, child support, welfare and tax laws.

Please move to re-establish the above current platform relating to divorce and custody issues

RESOLUTIONS TO ADD TO THE PARTY PLATFORM

Resolution Number One

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Minnesota State Legislature, in conventions assembled, pass a law to have:

  1. Presumptive joint physical custody be the standard for all divorce cases.
  2. In all cases of dissolution of marriage, separate maintenance, or adjudication of paternity, both parents have an equal duty to pay for the actual cost of supplying the reasonable needs of their child or children had in common between them in proportion to the respective incomes and other resources. The best interests of the child shall be deemed met when this obligation is fairly satisfied as far as practicable after due regard is given to the self-support need of each parent.
  3. Child support cost be based on marginal cost and not per capita costs.
  4. That parents cannot lose their legal or physical rights to their children without a trial by their peers.
  5. That the burden of proof for one parent to move a child away from the other be placed on the custodial parent before a trial of their peers.
  6. That all child support money be spent for the benefit of the child.

Resolution Number Two

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Minnesota state legislature, in convention assembled, does support action leading to legislative guarantees and protection of the father's inalienable right to decide against any unilateral or preemptive decision to terminate his child's developing life.
